to serve 4: 1-1 1/2 lbs broccoli (equals 1 cup steamed per person)
Stovetop method (no steamer needed):
-
Cut broccoli into florets, rinse.
-
Add about ½–1 inch of water to a saucepan and bring to a boil.
-
Place broccoli in the pan (use a steamer basket if you have one, or just add directly).
-
Cover with a lid and reduce heat to medium.
-
Steam for 3–5 minutes until bright green and just tender (poke with a fork to test).
-
Drain any excess water, season with salt, pepper, butter, or olive oil.
Microwave method (quickest):
-
Put broccoli florets in a microwave-safe bowl.
-
Add 2–3 tablespoons water.
-
Cover with a microwave-safe plate or lid.
-
Microwave on high for 2–4 minutes, depending on amount and desired tenderness.
-
Carefully remove (steam will be hot), drain, and season.
